National Employment Conference
The ministry of employment, social affairs, and family (MESAF) is organizing the third national employment conference that is scheduled to take place from 29th and 30th March 2022 at Hargeisa. The Covid-19 pandemic and recurrent drought exacerbated the fragile labour market opportunities in Somaliland. These challenges and other persistence gaps are triggered high unemployment rate among working age.
Therefore, the national employment conference will provide a policy dialogue platform for exchange, discussions, and information sharing among stakeholders. It will deeply be discussed on youth unemployment situation; Creating sound regulatory frameworks for decent employment, increasing financial inclusion for sustainable decent employment, Bridging the gaps between labour market demands through TVET supply, promoting entrepreneurship, innovation, and technology in decent employment, Inclusion Challenges in accessing labour market opportunities.
The national employment conference will have to inject a voice and action towards appropriate labor market policies, skills training, and employment and help MESAF and line ministries to come up with strategies to reduce youth unemployment through commitments to technical vocational training and education as a measure towards employment creation thus bridging the gap between private sector opportunities and youth capabilities.
