MSF Sool Project is looking for:
Main Purpose:
Supporting the Watsan activities in the implementation, monitoring, maintaining, and trouble-shooting of Water Hygiene Sanitation activities and infrastructure in the project according to MOH/MSF protocols, standards and procedures in order to improve the health and living conditions of the target population.
Accountabilities
Carrying out tasks directly related to the Watsan activities such as construction and maintenance of infrastructures in the project according to MOH/MSF protocols and standards concerning the operation of water supply, waste management and excreta disposal, hygiene and infection control.
Ensuring the cleaning and maintenance of the Watsan structures and when applicable, of the medical facilities; Identifying, recruiting, training and supervising daily labourers or hygiene agents for Watsan activities
Informing the Watsan manager/supervisor or any other Watsan/logistics of any difficulties, anomalies and problems that may affect the normal functioning of activities and tasks in his/her area of responsibility;
Assisting the Watsan manager/supervisor or any other Watsan/logistics in Watsan data collection and reporting, as well as maintaining updated files and records of assigned project activities
Being responsible for equipment, tools, and consumables, verifying that they are safely used and maintained. Reporting to the supervisor any need of renewal and the weekly/monthly consumption.
MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities
Water Supply.
Vigilantly oversee water quality and quantity within the hospital and at the Base.
Ensure uninterrupted water supply at the hospital and maintain emergency water reserves.
Continuously monitor hospital water supply, including water trucking, timely deliveries, accurate record-keeping, and tracking daily, weekly, and monthly consumption.
Guarantee water quality by promptly chlorinating water and daily monitoring of Free Residual Chlorine (FRC) levels, as well as other quality parameters such as turbidity and salinity.
Maintain the water supply network, including ground tanks, elevated tanks, and plumbing, taking immediate action for repairs and maintenance when necessary.
Sanitation
Thoroughly inspect and oversee sanitation facilities at the hospital.
Ensure the proper functioning of latrines, handwashing stations, and laundry facilities.
Monitor the functionality of septic tanks, grease traps, and drainage systems, taking immediate action to address blockages or maintenance needs.
Closely supervise handwashing stations to ensure adequate water supply and correct usage. Arrange for septic tank desludging in compliance with local regulations.
Waste Management :
Ensure compliance with minimum standards for healthcare waste management.
Monitor waste segregation, safe transportation, and proper disposal according to waste management guidelines.
Maintain and ensure the proper operation of incinerators, safety box reducers, glass crushers, and other waste disposal equipment, as well as the waste zone facility.
Oversee environmental cleaning within the hospital compound and handle domestic waste disposal in accordance with local laws and guidelines.
Ensure an adequate supply of waste management equipment and materials, such as waste bins,
refuse bags, and personal protective equipment.
Vector Control:
Ensure compliance with vector control guidelines.
Coordinate and manage insecticide residual spraying in the hospital and other premises as per guidelines.
Maintain and ensure the proper functioning of IRS equipment.
Monitor IRS chemical stock and ensure availability for scheduled spraying. Ensure the use of proper personal protective equipment during IRS exercise
Additional Tasks:
Provide hands-on technical guidance and supervision to Watsan staff under your supervision.
Oversee the day-to-day implementation and administration of assigned Watsan activities at the project level, including construction activities related to water supply, excreta disposal, waste management, and environmental considerations.
Manage materials and tools used in Watsan, including inventory management, order processing, and monthly consumption tracking.
Ensure emergency preparedness and response capacity, including verifying stock levels, contacts, and transportation resources.
Provide assistance to the project response team and participate in emergency activities or exploratory visits as needed.
Plan departmental tasks, including daily workers timesheets, administrative processes, and HR matters.
Participate in data collection and reporting as required.
Conduct capacity-building initiatives for waste operators, Watsan operators, and associated staff. Conduct rapid field and facility assessments for emergencies such as disease outbreaks.
Be ready for detachment to other locations within Somalia in the event of major emergency scenarios.
Maintain flexibility and assist with various activities beyond the primary job description as needed.
