JOB TITLE:  Social Development Monitors 3 Positions (2 Positions in Borama and 1 Position in Baki)

DEPARTMENT: Program

BASE LOCATION: Borama and Baki

GRADE:

 CONTRACT LENGTH:  3 months of probation period with possibility of extension to 12 Months based on performance and funding

REPORT TO:  Field Office incharge /Business Development Officer

LINE MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES: NONE

MATRIX MANAGES: FSL/Microfinance Assistant/BDO

JOB SUMMARY

JOB Purpose:  The social development monitors will be responsible for conducting field-level monitoring of the SHEEP projects' implementation. Their primary focus will be on working with the VSLA (Village Savings and Loan Association) groups established by the project. This entails monitoring the progress of the VSLA groups, ensuring the successful establishment of their small-scale businesses, monitoring the utilization of VSLA funds, and ensuring that all necessary documentation related to the VSLA groups is in order.

The social development monitors will provide support to the VSLA groups in documenting their VSLA loans, grants, and loan repayments. They will also play a crucial role in ensuring the regular occurrence of weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly meetings of the VSLA groups. Throughout the project implementation, they will actively identify challenges and opportunities faced by the VSLA groups.

In addition to their responsibilities with the VSLA groups, the social development monitors will facilitate and ensure the effectiveness of all support groups, VSLAs, and community representatives involved in the project. They will actively participate in VSLA meetings to contribute to their success.

Furthermore, the social development monitors will extend their support to other assignments and activities implemented within their localities by the project.

SCOPE OF ROLE:

·         The Social Development Monitors will work closely with the FSL/Microfinance Assistant/BDO to implement social development monitoring and project implementations. Facilitate training of VSLA groups, give guidelines, maintain an up-to-date record and excellent filing system in VSLA groups, and participate in VSLA meetings

KEY ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

·         Ensure project activities are monitor, followed-up on a timely basis, and proper documentation is made through VSLA progress reports.

·         Propose measures for program strengthening, especially for the target beneficiaries.

·         Facilitate trainings for VSLA groups and participate regularly in VSLA meetings.

·         Hold regular reviews and assessments with all beneficiaries and VSLA groups, contact persons, and identify areas for improvement.

·         Carry out social assessments of the families and individuals that meet the project selection criteria and participate in the selection of beneficiaries to be supported by the program.

·         Carry out assessments of the families, individuals, and mark out families who have reached self-reliance.

·         Conduct home visits to families and assess their economic status.

·         Provide families with coaching and mentors whenever you do the home visits.

·         Maintain an up-to-date record and an excellent filing system.

·         Facilitate and identify adults for the vocational skills development of youth and women under the project.

·         Prepare satisfactory reports, case studies, and examples of best practices, and ensure that up-to-date records are kept for all reports.

·         Facilitate and ensure the effectiveness of all the support groups, VSLA, and community representatives, Attend regular department meeting.

·         Facilitate ongoing participatory monitoring and evaluation throughout the project implementation process, ensuring full participation of the management committees and beneficiaries.

·         In partnership with CBO’s, organize and conduct trainings, workshops, and experience sharing on child protection/rights, parenting skills, health education/provision on stress, and psychosocial support, Provide awareness on rights protection, entitlements, and social issues for the targeted community members. Basic financial management, bookkeeping, and business management for VSLA members/parents, carers, and local authorities

·         Additional duties and responsibilities asked by the line management.

·         Good computer application skills (MS-Office, application software to engineering designs)

·         Fluency in English and Somali.

Qualifications

  • Minimum one year of experience in working in a relief or development NGO in a similar job.
  • Degree of social science/ Business administration, community development, and economics or any other relevant field.
